Abstract Landscape Ink Drawings

With this project, I wanted to incorporate my own artistic ideas into the “art” of nature. By including my own thoughts and emotions into the paintings of landscapes, I discovered an abstract art form that is not only personal but beautiful. Even though nature is usually filled with colors, a story can still be explored in black and white. Even more so if there is an abstract twist on the picture. That’s why I believe that this project has a powerful insight into what the artist thinks about the world. Some of my paintings are more realistic than abstract, yet others are more abstract than realistic. I think this shows having a balance between the two can turn the art into a more complex series that shows even if you cannot control nature itself, you can control how you view your environment. Within the paintings, I included a lot of different values, shapes, lines and symbols to express my perspective about nature. Most of my paintings are scenes captured during the night. While creating this, I did not attempt to favor night landscapes, however this reveals that I see great beauty within night landscapes.  An example of this is the abstract landscape of the moon. I created swirls of valued lines all around the main nocturnal symbol as the “wind” in the landscape. Yet in reality, this “wind” are  all my thoughts that are often active during the night hours and the energy I have during the night. Overall creating these paintings showed me that there is beauty in reality and the abstract.
